Its a Maruthi car for sure, but still 4 numbers or digits are missing.

As VIN character maruthi is 21 , but you have mentioned 17 characters only.

The decoding mainly takes place if you mention rest 4 digits or you would have been given incomplete VIN.

But still guessing whether its Kizashi or Swift VDI/ZDI?

Mukesh, Ok agreed! It's a maruthi car. MA3 is for Maruthi. [:)]

The number is of 17 characters only (Cheked other posts and confirmed). There are 2 special characters and 2 additional characters.

The VIN looks either incomplete or incorrect,

MA3FHEB1S00171145

There should be a check digit in place of the highlighted S

the check digit should be 8 as per the other 16 characters mentioned in the VIN.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

@ FJ_CRUZER: The VIN is correct. I checked and verified with atleast 3 people to tell me the correct VIN and response was the same VIN number provided. Since i'm not in the location where the vehicle is, did not get a chance to check the car in flesh. Got the same printed in the Invoice copy as well today.

AFAIK, these are the kind of VIN numbers from Maruthi's stable these days.

Ok. This is a Maruti and the VIN code will remain as 17 characters.. The Maruti guys will add 4 characters once they are sure of rolling out the car from plant. the last 4 characters contains some Special characters (like #,@,$) and month & year code of the manufacturing.

However, I still think the 9th character has to be a digit or X.

And, may be this is Swift / Swift Dzire.

The car is with the dealership now. People have seen the car in flesh.
I has added the $ sign assuming it should be some special character atleast.

But the 17 digits and last 2, i'm pretty sure!

And, may be this is Swift / Swift Dzire.
I think its a Maruti SX4.
Let me skip this part for now.

Does that mean MSIL have started using 17 character VIN codes recently?

I has added the $ sign assuming it should be some special character atleast.

I did not get you there? Could you please elaborate.
