Tata Harrier H7X first teaser image – Rival to Mahindra XUV700, Toyota Fortuner
It seems Tata Motors has cleverly packaged early teasers of multiple upcoming products in its promo video which was released at the Auto Expo 2018 at the world premiere of 45X and H5X concepts. The video shows an early sketch of what could eventually become the 7-seater version of Harrier which is currently referred as Harrier H7X by the media in the absence of an official name.
The very basic sketch suggests that the Tata Harrier H7X will retain most of H5X’s design cues till the mid-section after which, the premium SUV will get new rear overhang, long enough to accommodate the third row of seats. It’s unclear as of now if the wheelbase will be stretched to ease up more real estate although that would be a better approach.
While the Harrier H5X features a roofline that tapers down towards the rear to form a tightly skinned fascia like the Range Rover Evoque, its 7-seater sibling will have a flatter roof to make room for last row passengers’ heads.
We expect the rear fascia to be completely different from that of the Harrier H5X. The taillights would be positioned lower, the tailgate would be more upright to offer a practical boot capacity, and there could be more design elements to mask the visual bulk of the larger rear section.
The Tata Harrier H7X would rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and the upcoming Mahindra XUV700. The new flagship would be hoping to beat its more established rivals by using its Land Rover pedigree and an attractive value proposition.
Speaking of Land Rover pedigree, the Harrier H7X will be underpinned by the OMEGA platform which is derived from the British UV specialist’s D8 architecture. Like the Harrier, the upcoming premium Tata 7-seater SUV will adopt 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine sourced from FCA. This engine delivers 171 PS and and 350 Nm.
The Harrier H5X is scheduled to be launched in first quarter of 2019 while the 7-seater is expected in 2020. Once launched, expect the premium 7 seater SUV with 4×4 to be priced in the range of Rs 25 lakhs, ex-showroom.
