The model has been codenamed as U215 and is currently in the design phase. It will be a comprehensive makeover which is the desperate need for the compact SUV to do fair bit of sales. It is expected to be preceded by the launch of the S101 and later on the company will also be getting a third sub four-metre compact SUV that has been codenamed U301.

The project, codenamed U215, includes major design changes which are currently being worked on at M&M's design centre in Italy. The U215 will be positioned between the other two vehicles in the pipeline — M&M's first micro-SUV, dubbed S101, which will create a new entry point for the company and be pitted as an alternative to premium hatchbacks, and the probable Bolero replacement, codenamed U301

Updated Mahindra Quanto to get exterior, interior and mechanical changes- to be released by end 2015

The 2015 Mahindra Quanto is expected to get mildly restyled headlamps, grille and bumpers, and new-design alloy wheels for the higher variants. Inside, the updated Quanto will now get a new beige-themed dashboard and steering wheel, and an audio system with Bluetooth and voice command recognition. The seats are also expected to be all-new, with better cushioning and lumbar support.
A major mechanical update expected on the Quanto will be the use of tweaked suspension and the addition of extra bushes and a rear stability bar

Mahindra will be introducing the facelift version of the Quanto in the coming few months. The Quanto facelift gets a new hood with air-scoop, new XUV500 inspired front grille, new headlamp, new fog lamps and re-designed front bumpers. The Quanto’s side profile will be unchanged, however it will get a new set of alloy wheels. Then gone are the roof rails too. The rear also looks the same, tail lamps could be LED's.

The interiors could get an upgrade in blue tooth connectivity,new steering wheel , new music system, etc. Suspension will get an upgrade to make it more stable. Could come with AMT with the same diesel engine.

Mahindra Quanto to get muscular styling, even LEDs.




The recently sold Quanto (U203) will be getting a lot of cosmetic changes and it will lot a lot rugged than before.
The Quanto will get muscular styling with an air scoop on the hood, new front grille, with revised headlamp design. The design team at Mahindra had to change the complete design to make it look different from the rest. The Quanto headlamps now get LEDs (day-time running LEDs) and even the tail lamps have been revised

The Quanto’s interior too shall be changed to a good extent and there will be several new additional features.
The Quanto will be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine and will get an AMT (automated manual transmission) option too. The Quanto will be offered along with the other two new upcoming compact SUVs (CUV100/XUV100 and TUV300), which are non-other than the S101 and the new Bolero. As even Quanto is similar size, it might just be renamed as XUV300/CUV300.

Mahindra Quanto Facelift Could Be Called The Canto

India’s most popular UV and SUV manufacturer Mahindra is testing the facelift of its compact SUV, Quanto. One of lesser popular cars of the company, it needs a comprehensive facelift to make it more appealing. In order to brand the vehicle in a totally different light, the company is planning to rename the car along with the facelift. Latest import records suggest that the SUV could be called ‘Canto’. However, the name doesn’t sound too different from the current name and many might end up calling it the Quanto only. Ssangyong, Mahindra’s South Korean subsidiary seems to be creating moulds for many parts and these are then being imported to India.

Recent spy shots suggest that the Quanto will get plenty of changes to the exteriors and the changes to the interiors would be very few. A hood scoop, new bumper, grille and head lamps along with some other minor changes would freshen up the front-end looks while a new pair of tail lamps and a new bumper would add some appeal to the boring rear-end. The only major change to the interior seems to be the new multi-function steering wheel
while the interior colour theme has been changed to grey and beige. Tweaks to the suspension will be made by the Indian carmaker to reduce body roll and improve the ride quality which the Quanto currently fares poorly on.

Even though the exterior gets quite a lot of changes, the Quanto is expected to continue with the same 1.5-litre, three-cylinder engine producing 100 PS of power and 240 Nm of torque which gives it decent level of performance. Like all the recent facelifts from various manufacturers, Mahindra might try to increase the ARAI certified fuel efficiency figures which currently stand at 17.1 km/l. The compact SUV would still be offered as a 5-seater with two jump seats at the back which are surprisingly spacious enough. We expect the launch to happen during the festive season. Mahindra will also be launching the XUV facelift tomorrow and the next-generation Bolero is expected soon.

Mahindra to roll out the Quanto facelift this year

Mahindra is working on an updated version of its compact SUV Quanto and says it is planning to launch it this year. In fact, the automaker will also reposition the car as an SUV this time around.The earlier version of the Quanto looked more like a multi-purpose vehicle as it shared its looks with the Mahindra Xylo. The Quanto was unable to sell as per the automaker’s expectations. In 2014-15 (Apr-Mar), the Quanto sold over 1,900 units as against the EcoSport which sold over 52,000 units.

However, Mahindra is all set to breathe some life into the Quanto and provide it a new identity by giving a distinctive bonnet with a scoop. Other bits in the updated exterior include redesigned headlamps, grille and bumper.Pravin Shah, President and CEO of Mahindra’s automotive division said that he was working on the Quanto and added that the company would roll out the update this year.

Apart from the refreshed exterior, the updated Quanto will also get alloy wheels for the higher variants. and a new beige-themed dashboard and steering wheel amongst other amenities.The Quanto will come with the existing 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel motor, good for 98.6bhp and 24.4kgm of torque. It will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

Moreover, the automaker is also working towards launching two new compact SUV’s such as the Mahindra S101 (internal codename), an all-new compact SUV developed ground-up as a sub-four-metre vehicle on monocoque architecture and the Mahindra U-301 that has been built on the next-gen ladder chassis which was first seen on the new Scorpio.

Its still way too awkward a design. Tall and length-wise short, sitting on 15 in wheels. And stiff upright rear seats. How much ever they try, they cannot hide the Xylo underpinnings.

Mahindra Quanto facelift gets a new engine .

Mahindra's Quanto was launched with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine, which is powerful and efficient. The Quanto facelift, which is in the works will be an updated engine. This new engine will be called as mHawk100 and will be producing about 100bhp of power.

The Quanto facelift will get a major upgrade in its styling too. The hood will get a air scoop, just like the Scorpio to make it look more muscular and rugged. There will also be an AMT (automated manual transmission) as well.

Whats difference between all new quanto aka canto and TUV300? I would have appreicated that TUV replaced the quanto all together. what would be cantos postioning? Below TUV 300?

I think now that the Quanto will look more Butch, which for some odd reasons we Indians love, (e.g. the Kwid), MM should price this below TUV3OO, and change the dash & steering wheel, and probably change the tail lights, and make sure the footfalls increase, and they buy something.

Precisely that is the question i wanted to put forwards.

What will be the positioning between the Canto and TUV 300?

Won't they canibalize each other?

How will they market them to differentiate both the cars?

What are their target customers?
