Tata Motors will kick off its new product offensive with ‘Project Falcon’, which will spawn a new hatchback and sub-four-metre saloon based on the company’s existing X1 platform that underpins the current Vista and Manza.

However, according to company insiders, the Falcon siblings are essentially all-new vehicles and have "no resemblance to any existing Tata product”. In fact, Tata Motors is likely to drop the Vista and Manza names altogether, to drive home the point that these models represent a fresh innings for the company that has been badly struggling with an ageing and dry product pipeline. It is unlikely, however, that Tata Motors will use ‘Falcon’, which is just the project designation, as the market name for the new cars.

‘Falcon 4’ is the project code for the hatchback, which has been styled in Tata’s European design studio. It will eventually replace the Vista when it goes on sale towards the end of 2014 and will come with both diesel and petrol engine options. The 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet diesel is carried over from the Vista, but a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, based on the current Xeta engine, will debut in the Falcons. This engine will be the base motor in an engine family that Tata Motors is developing, which, in the future, will include larger-capacity engines and direct fuel injection.

‘Falcon 5’ is a new sub-four-metre saloon that will replace the current Manza and will be positioned above the existing Indigo eCS when it goes on sale next year. Again, this new saloon will use the Manza’s 89bhp, Fiat-sourced 1.3 diesel, but petrol power is likely to come from a more powerful version of the new 1.2 turbo-petrol, producing in excess of 100bhp.

It’s likely that the Falcon 5 will be launched a couple of months before the hatchback (Falcon 4) and around the festive season next year. Both the Falcon cars will be unveiled at the Auto Expo next February.

Re: Tata Falcon hatchback, compact saloon to debut at Auto Expo

This is indeed the best news I have read about Tata motors in the recent times. the move to do away with Indica name is a good move. Perception of older cars will not be attributed to the new cars. However, the timelines seems be a bit long. What about the mini SUV/ CUV by the time they launch their product the CUV segment would be completely saturated.

Well, the brighter side to coin is Tatas are changing. Hope this help them get back into reckoning and get themselves some decent numbers.

The most exciting part of this news is 1.2 Turbo Petrol with 100 bhp.

We need to keep an eye for test mules.

What you see is the facelift Vista which I guess would be launched by end of this year. Interim arrangment done by TML, between the launch of Falcons. From reports read, the Falcons would be launched some time during the festive season of 2014, which implies to me around the ganapati/ navratri festival in 2014.

Re: Tata Falcon Hatchback & Compact Sedan To Debut at Auto Expo

Tata will need more than a Falcon to recover!
The Vista and Manza are good products-perhaps a bit too high priced for peoples image of TML. The entire package from the test drive to sales, ASS needs an actual overhaul.Plenty has been written about it,and a lot spoken,i.e "horizonnext", interviews with KSlym, etc but no change seems evident on the ground!
Imagine the i10 Grand-instant hit-no one believes they are test guinea pigs for Hyundai. They know Hyundai product will be generally trouble free. The know that ASS is good, BUT expensive-still they think its ok in the long run. A bit like owning a Toyota-expensive service but trouble free motoring.
If TML can get to 80% of the above standards, reduce prices marginally, even the existing products will sell. That's my theory anyway!

Well the news seems to good for TATA if the go ahead [clap]

but in my opinion tata is confusion media by giving different news in different times till now they given several types projects they announced like....
> A+ Segment hatchback based on nano or vista(x1) platforms with Cooperation of Fiat?

> B segment hatchback(Toll Boy version like wagonR) based X1(vista) platform position between indica and vista?

> B segment Hatchback based on X0( Reskinned version of Indica V2 or eV2 more then 70% change done in body in white) powered by 1.05L Dicor 3Cylinder unit and 1.2L Turbo charged one?

> Redesigned Vista 2014 B+ Segment Hatch back based on X1 platform and Manza CS

> Campact SUV based on Vista/Manza Platform

> And Now finally this new project TATA Falcon Reskinned Vista

so in this which news going to be take birth [confused]

Tata need some new models ASAP. The biggest Tata dealer here is closing down due to decline in sales. Barely sells anything, even cabbies started prefering other brands.

Mohandas has already closed the dealership as they have now started the Fiat. Do you mean Kulathunkal Motors ?

Yes, Kulathunkal stopped taking booking according to cousin's colleague working there and planning to take some other dealership. Wondering who's gonna sell Falcon once it is out. Hope they start factory outlet here too.

The rumoured Falcon better be a new model, otherwise its gonna be a big flop show for them.I can't figure out who is the designer behind the plain jane cars from TATA.Is it that difficult to design a car like Polo?

Re: Tata Falcon Hatchback & Compact Sedan To Debut at Auto Expo

Will the Falcon succeed?
Well, sometime ago when the Sumo was introduced it left M&M stumped; now its TMLs turn with the MUV and SUVs. The only problem for TML is that all their new/newer releases have not done too well- the Vista/ Manza/ Aria/ Nano/ Storme-thats a lot of investment and more importantly time! None are actually as bad as sales suggest. Other than ASS my feeling is that all are overpriced-in customers eyes. M&M with the Scorpio managed to get out of the cheap and value for money image;TML is still stuck with this-people know they are value products but not at TML's asking price.
How should they then price the Falcons? V.V aggressively in my view-at least till the market warms up to them again!Might i add even at a relative loss initially?

Re: Tata Falcon Hatchback & Compact Sedan To Debut at Auto Expo

Well I hope atleast now TML has learnt from it's mistake and is all geared up to launch new products, and managed to divert some attention from JLR towards TML.

I think TATA Should bring this new model exclusively for the Private customers with the existing Vista retained in CR4 guise for the taxi customers. Then they can maintain some gap between the customers and hence increase in some Private customers. Alike scenario in the V2 segment too.

Maruti's dream to capture the taxi market with the DeZire Tour seems to have fallen flat with no vehicles in the taxi segment seen on the roads.
