Can we dedicate this thread to Tata Motor's presence in the international market.

My first contribution:

Tata Motors will say hello to Indonesia at IIMS 2012

The 2012 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) is certainly going to be a very lively exhibition as Indian auto maker Tata Motors have confirmed their participation and will showcase the global headline magnet, the Tata Nano, in their booth.

The Tata Nano’s Facebook page has so many inquiries everyday from Indonesians on its local launch date and prices. It can be ascertained that the car has huge expectations to fulfill in Indonesia.

According to reports, Tata Motors is still undecided on the location of a compact car plant to explore the demand for cheap cars in the ASEAN region. The company could either zero in on Thailand or Indonesia for the ground breaking ceremony to be held in late 2013 of a factory that produces 60,000 vehicles annually.

The IIMS runs between September 20-30, and Tata Motors will grace the show with a full range of models. Exhibits expected to mark their attendance are the Tata Prima, Tata Xenon single cabin, Tata Magic, Tata Ace and the Tata Nano.

“IIMS 2012 is the means for Tata Motors to introduce ourselves as a global automotive company that markets a variety of vehicles ranging from small passenger cars to trucks and buses that are environmentally friendly,” said Biswadev Sengupta, President Director, PT. Tata Motors Indonesia (TMI), to leading Indonesian automobile website Okezone.

Tata Motors does not attend the show with a plan to launch vehicles. The ambition in participating at IIMS is to build the brand that is Tata Motors. The company is working out strategies to establish a dealer network and when a rudimentary web of outlets are up and running, the products will begin to retail. This is expected to unfold only in early 2013, the Okezone report concludes.

Re: TATA MOTORS presence INTERNATIONALLY

Tata, Mahindra and Maruti are the only 4-wheelers companies offering abundant countersale of sale spare parts. Let us encourage these three companies by exlcuisvely purchasing 4-wheelers among these three companies only.

All other MNC companies are double game when it comes to countersale of spares. For example VW allows 100% countersale of all spares of all models of their cars in Germany, Japan, US etc., When it comes to India, they don't want to do so, becoz they want to exploit the customer by way of labour charges apart from the price of spare parts. Since the consumer protection laws are strictly implemented in developed countries, these MNC's like Honda, Toyota, Bentley, VW, Skoda etc. dont dare to do so in developed countries like as they do in India.

TATA Motors have also presence here in Thai market. It started with the Xenon pickup. Then the Ace light truck and i guess the Nano. I saw one Nano here with temp plates and no testing camouflage so it means it was privately owned. also a friend who has his office beside tata showroom said he has seen Nano in their showroom. Xenon is popular with the corporate sector because it has dual cng option.

Tata Motors today announced its entry into Indonesia, the largest automobile market in the ASEAN. A wholly owned Jakarta-based subsidiary, PT Tata Motors Indonesia, will sell passenger and commercial vehicles from 2013.

Instead of reading through the exhaustive statement, we’re going to provide you with pointers that puts the brand launch in a nutshell.
Operations will be conducted through a wholly owned Jakarta-based subsidiary, PT Tata Motors Indonesia.
The commercial launch and local assembly of products are scheduled for 2013.
Country-wide dealer network is currently under construction for sales, service and spare parts.
The company has plans for developing components locally with Indonesian vendors.
Both passenger and commercial vehicles will be sold in Indonesia – products right from the 0.5T mini-truck to 49T heavy trucks under consideration.
By the launch period, about 15 dealers would have started operations across the country. In three years, PT Tata Motors Indonesia targets to open 60 dealerships, 100 workshops and 300 spare parts retailers.
Tata Motors is considering “setting up a manufacturing base in Indonesia to serve the country and the ASEAN region.”
Tata Motors will display 14 products at the 20th Indonesia International Motor Show, that takes place in Jakarta on September 20, with a view of launching them progressively. A special green pavilion will play a significant part in the show with Tata CNG vehicles, the need for which is growing in Indonesia.

TATA MOTORS TO BEGIN SELLING THE NANO IN INDONESIA FROM EARLY 2013

The Nano, which will be sold in Indonesia will be initially imported into the country as a completely built unit(CBU). Based on the demand that the Nano generates in Indonesia, Tata Motors will take a call about local assembly or manufacture of the small car. The Nano that will be sold in Indonesia will be a petrol engined version, which will be similar to the variant sold in the Indian car market. For the Indonesian market though, the left hand drive version of the Nano will be sold.

Will be interesting to see how Nano will be received in the Indonesian market.

Tata Manza to reach South African shores to counteract Etios; Teasers revealed

After witnessing the euphoric reception that South Africans bestowed upon the made-in-India Toyota Etios, it seems Tata Motors find it irresistible to crash the party.

Tata Motors South Africa has been teasing a sedan on their official Facebook page since few days with hints like triple barrel head lamps, dual tone interiors, comfortable rear seats and so on, which directly points the finger at the Manza.

The Tata Manza is not entirely new to the South African as it was unveiled at last year’s Johannesburg International Motor Show.

The Etios is being sold there since this May and it instantly became one of the best selling cars in South Africa. The cumulative sales of the Etios (both sedan and hatchback) in South Africa were 1315, 2105, 1753 and 1563 units for the months of May, June, July and August respectively, making it the third best selling car after the VW Polo variants during this period.

The South African market that is predominantly petrol oriented will have better demand for the 1.4 litre Fiat petrol engine that develops 88.7 bhp. Interestingly the 1.5 litre petrol engine that powers the Toyota Etios also churns out exactly the same amount of power.

Tata Motors SA has already established a sales and service network through which it sells its range of commercial vehicles and passenger cars like the Indica and the Vista.
With its advantage of more space and better interior, the Tata Manza has the potential to pose a serious threat to Etios and rake in some respectable export volumes. The fact that India has a long standing trade relationship with South Africa only makes it easier for Tata Motors to move in boldly.

Tata Motors planning to source components locally for its Indonesian venture

The largest automobile company in India Tata Motors had recently announced its entry into Indonesia, the largest automobile market in the Asean region. It can be recalled that the company has set up a wholly owned Jakarta-based subsidiary, PT Tata Motors Indonesia, and is to foray into both passenger and commercial vehicles.
Now it has been reported that the company is planning significant investments for component localisation. The sourcing of components locally will help the company to keep the prices in check rather importing components from outside the local market.

According to a report in The Business Line, Tata Motors is all set to launch its products next year, for which extensive preparations are currently on. The report mentioned that Ravi Pisharody, Executive Director (Commercial Vehicles), Tata Motors, said “Our portfolio is globally benchmarked. Based on customer feedback, we will progressively introduce relevant passenger and commercial vehicles, backed by appropriate distribution and service infrastructure such that we are closest to our customers.”

Tata made a big mistake when they released the Indica MkI as the City Rover in the UK. It just got chewed out. Now they also own JLR so have to be more circumspect. So the delay, caution, and preparation is to be applauded.

the two fully exposed Tata Nanos were testing with Indonesian license plates, suggesting that the launch is not far away.
Confirming that, Tata Motors has recently announced their foray into Indonesian market as PT Tata Motors and will participate in the this week’s Indonesia International Motor Show.
Tata Motors is expected to display their range of commercial and passenger cars such as the Nano, Aria 4×4, Xenon double cab, Indica Vista, Ace and Super Ace at the show.
Tata Motors is believed to be deciding on investments to cater to the compact car demand in the ASEAN countries. The company also stated that the components will be localized indicating their seriousness about the market.
The newly appointed Managing Director Mr. Karl Slym said: “We will establish deeply rooted local operations and will grow in tandem with the prosperity of the country and its people”.
The Tata vehicles will be progressively introduced in Indonesia starting form next year and will be initially backed by 10-15 dealerships across the country. The number of dealerships will be increased to 60 in coming years.
Tata Motors have high hopes for Indonesia and expects the island country to be the largest market outside home.

Driving impression of Indigo Manza from S.A auto journalist

After a period of little new model activity, Indian giant Tata Motors is gearing up for a number of introductions of which the Manza saloon featured here is just the beginning. Soon there will also be the new Super Ace pick-up (think Daihatsu Gran Max) and then the flagship seven-seat Aria crossover.

The Indigo Manza is a crucial addition to the Tata line-up, as it competes against "affordable" B-segment vehicles such as the VW Polo Vivo and Toyota Etios. Until now, Tata did not have a saloon offering in this ultra-important, high-volume segment.

Visually, the newcomer draws heavily from the style set by the Vista hatchback, with large swept-back headlamps dominating the front-end. The range-topping Ignis model I drove comes with aftermarket-looking 15-inch alloy wheels as standard. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it has to be said that the addition of a boot has given the vehicle rather awkard proportions but, that said, styling is unlikely to be a major consideration in this segment.

What is important to the customers shopping for a vehicle such as this is value. In this regard the Manza makes a strong case for itself. It comes standard with a four years/100 000 km service plan, a radio/CD system with USB and aux-in, as well as Bluetooth, height-adjustable driver's seat, dual front airbags, ABS, electric windows all-round, electric mirror adjustment, remote central unlocking and air-conditioning, among other items.

Also of big importance is its cabin space. Given its relatively compact dimensions (4,4 metres long and 2,52 metres wheelbase), the Manza boasts a truly massive cabin with oodles of rear legroom and a cavernous boot (claimed 460 litres) . It is, however, a pity that the rear seatback isn't split, and that when folded, it doesn't result in a flat floor. Also, the aperture between the boot and the cabin is rather narrow. Still, this is a very practical proposition if you're looking for a spacious, affordable family car. Another small complaint is that the instruments are quite small and therefore not easy to read.

Given the rapid progress that some Chinese brands (particularly GWM) have made in terms of trim fit and finish, I was particularly keen to see whether Tata has also managed to make improvements. They certainly have. I'd go as far as saying that the Manza, in terms of perceived quality related to trim quality and fit and finish, made a stronger impression on me than the Toyota Etios. The driving route included some particularly poor roads, but the cabin remained free of rattles. The Manza has a high ground clearance and fairly plump tyres, so the ride is relatively good, too, though not ultimately as composed as an Etios or Vivo, as examples. My only complaint would be that at around 120 km/h the wind noise became intrusive. Furthermore, the engine is revving at near 3 500 r/min when travelling at the national speed limit, and this makes the engine sound quite buzzy.

The engine (Fiat sourced) is a 1,4-litre petrol unit that delivers 66 kW. The Tata press release is thin on technical specification or performance claims, but does mention a fuel economy figure of 14,5 km/L, which translates to 6,9 L/100 km.

At just under R135 000 a lot of shoppers in this segment will find the Tata badge hard to swallow. It will take some time before the definite improvement in perceived build quality translates into a noticeably more positive brand perception. If you're not worried by such matters, this car's long service plan (and long service intervals of 25 000 km), long standard features list and spacious cabin will make it worth considering.
